Updates

OCTOBER 7, 2009

The film is nearing completion and we have begun to submit it to film festivals. With any luck, people will be able to begin viewing the film come Jan 2010.

Happy (belated) New Year Ethiopia!

APRIL 27, 2009

Why isn't the film done? Because this project is insane (and because we need to work other jobs to pay the bills). Based on feedback, the film has been weeded back to the core story of the millennium. Hence, we have gone full circle and gone back to the original name Millennium Ethiopia and the film is now going to be a short about 25 minutes in length. While this was a difficult decision, artistically it was the right thing to do.

We are now aiming to finish the film by the Sundance September submission deadline. While the project has taken much longer than expected, the film is coming out very nicely. Also, we are looking for a composer with Ethiopian roots so please keep an ear out for us.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2008

We have been busy working on the first cut of the film. While editing, we found some holes in our footage and recently shot an interview with Dr. David Shinn, the former U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia. Furthermore, we have been trying to secure an interview with Bob Geldof, the main organizer behind the 1985 Ethiopian famine relief concert Live Aid and the 2005 follow-up concert Live 8. We have been unable to reach Bob Geldof so please let us know if you have any contacts that might be willing to help.

And finally Happy New Year Ethiopia!

JUNE 18, 2008

We just launched the new version of our website reflecting the expanded focus of the film and the new title (green, yellow, red). The synopsis and photos have been updated and we added a statement from the director. Also, we had a nice article about the film recently published in Sheeko Magazine (click here for the article).

While the film is coming together wonderfully, it's taking longer than we expected. Initially, we had hoped to have the film done by mid 2008 but now it is looking like the end of '08. We have recently finished cutting together an eight-minute extended trailer that we are using to apply for grants to finish the film. Wish us luck!

FEBRUARY 27, 2008

Postproduction is in full swing. We've finished capturing all 100 hours of footage and have now begun the logging process. In addition, we've received some initial press coverage from The Ethiopian American Magazine (click here for the article) and The Ethiopian Reporter (click here for the article).

JANUARY 4, 2008

Happy New Year, again! We finished production in Ethiopia just in time to return to the U.S. for the holiday season. In total, we shot over 100 hours of footage and are ready to start postproduction. We expect post to last 4-5 months, which means we would like to finish the film in mid 2008. Please add your email to our mailing list if you would like to find out about upcoming screenings and events. Finally, so many people helped on the production of this film; thank you all so much!

NOVEMBER 17, 2007

The film is progressing nicely. To date, we have shot 80 hours of footage and expect to shoot another 20-30 before we finish. So far, we have filmed in the United States, Israel and in Ethiopia. We hope to wrap the shooting phase of the film by the end of December, which will mark six months of work in Ethiopia. Most of the postproduction will be done in New York City but certain elements have already been started. For instance, we are working with a Rastafarian artist based in Shashamane on a short animation for the film. In addition, the internationally renowned reggae artist Luciano has agreed to be featured in the soundtrack.
